PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's soccer team were at home on Saturday and hosted SUNY Fredonia. After falling behind early in the second half, they were able to come back and secure the draw to remain undefeated. The Cardinals now hold a 2-0-3 record, while the Blue Devils sit at 2-2-2.
In the first half, Fisher had a few opportunities to get on the scoreboard. In the fourth minute of the game,
Tori Cruz took a shot that was saved by the Fredonia keeper. Cruz once against saw an opportunity in the 15th minute, but fired her shot just wide of the goal. Moments later
Grace Wolsieffer took a chance that was also wide of the net. The final opportunity in the first half came on a header by
Gwen Madden that forced a goalkeeper save.
As the second half began,
Siobhan McMakin got the first opportunity to score, but it was Fredonia who knocked in the first goal at the 52:53 mark. The Cardinals began to knock on the door of scoring and then
Emma Osterhoudt converted. After a well-placed ball by
Jackie Gervais, Osterhoudt was one-on-one with the defender and made a move to her left to create space before slotting her shot in the bottom right corner of the goal to tie things up. Fisher maintained pressure in the final ten minutes, taking five shots, but none were able to be the game winner.
The team will be on the road on Tuesday, Sept. 20 when they travel to Ithaca College for a 4 p.m. match against the Bombers.
