PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's volleyball team begin their season this weekend. They travel to Baltimore, Maryland for the Greg Giovanazzi Memorial Invite hosted by John Hopkins University. They take on Marymount University on Friday, before a double-header on Saturday against Stevens and John Hopkins University.
Empire Dominance
During their run of three straight Empire 8 conference titles, the Cardinals have a 29-match winning streak against conference competition. If they do raise the trophy at the end of the year, it will be the first time in Empire 8 history that a team wins four straight. In 2021, Fisher dropped a total of three sets in their eight conference matchups.
Impressive Group Of Returners
The Cardinals return some key pieces including seniors
Lindsey DeBonis and
Sydney French and fifth year setter,
Katie Leaty. DeBonis is a three-time All-E8 selection, while Leaty earned All-E8 second team last season after recording 922 assists. Three-time Empire 8 Coach of the Year,
Kelly Greapentrog, will also depend on new players to gel with the team as they pursue more hardware.
