PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's tennis team closed out its regular season on Sunday with a 9-0 win over visiting Alfred University at Mendon Racquet and Pool Club. With the victory, Fisher, which has earned the third overall seed in next week's Empire 8 Championship, improved to 6-9 overall and 4-4 in the league standings while the Saxons fell to 2-13, 1-7, respectively.
The Cardinals swept all three flights in doubles play with
Jordan O'Connell and
Anthony Molosag earning an 8-4 decision at first doubles.
Sean Danahy and
Jake Anthony combined to win second doubles, 8-0, while
Cameron Campbell and
Zach DeCaro posted a shutout at third doubles, 8-0.
In singles play, Danahy was a winner in the first flight, 6-1, 6-2, while Molosag posted a 6-0, 6-2 decision at second singles. Anthony earned his second point of the day after taking third singles, 6-1, 6-0, while Campbell followed suit with a 6-1, 6-0, victory at fourth singles. DeCaro earned a 6-0 win in the opening set before wrapping up his contest at fifth singles with a 6-3 decision and
Andrew Cegielski didn't yield a game at sixth singles with a 6-0, 6-0, win.
The Cardinals will return to action at 4 p.m. on Friday when they take on No. 2 Nazareth College in the semifinal round of the Empire 8 Championship at Mendon Racquet and Pool Club.
