Cardinals Stay Hot As Women's Lacrosse Picks Up Fourth-Straight Victory

KEUKA, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team picked up its fourth-straight Empire 8 victory after a 20-1 win over Keuka College on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, Fisher, which is receiving votes in the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association national poll, improves to 6-6 on the season, and 4-0 in the Empire 8, while Keuka falls to 3-7 overall, and 0-4 in the conference.

Freshman Sydney Carpenter led the offense for the Cardinals with seven points including three goals and four assists, while Mary Fiorentino scored five goals and Kathleen Salanger produced four goals in the match. Lilly Goodsell earned the victory (6-6) after allowing just one goal and one save.

Looking for the team's fourth-straight win, Fisher's offense came out hot as Farrah Zalla scored the first goal of the match just over a minute into play. The Cardinals would extend their lead as goals from Salanger and Fiorentino would come following forced turnovers from the defense.

As the quarter wore on, Fisher would take a 5-0 lead before Fiorentino would find Mykenzie Black for a goal with just seven seconds showing on the clock.

The Cardinals momentum carried over into frame two, as Fisher would score eight in the quarter to head into halftime leading 14-0.

Following the break, defensive adjustments from both teams slowed down the pace of play until Courtney O'Dea found Zalla for her third goal of the game.

Fisher would go on to score two more from Fiorentino to take a comfortable 17-0 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Holding a 17-point advantage with 15 minutes to play, Fisher continued to play hard as Emma Biel earned a free position attempt following a yellow card from Keuka. Biel lined up and put in the back of the net to push the lead to 18.

From there, Black would score her second goal, before a Keuka free position attempt would put its first and only goal on the board.

The Cardinals would score one more before running the clock out to secure their fourth-straight win, and earn a berth in the Empire 8 playoffs.

The Cardinals will be back in action as they travel to Ithaca to take on the Bombers at 4 p.m. on Friday.
