Women's Lacrosse Outmatched by No. 10-Ranked Ithaca

ITHACA, N.Y. - No. 10 nationally-ranked Ithaca College handed the St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team a 13-6 loss on the Bombers' home turf inside Higgins Stadium on Friday evening.

The loss snapped a four-game win streak for the Cardinals (6-7. 4-0 Empire 8), who entered the non-conference bout receiving votes in the Inside Lacrosse/Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III poll.

The Fisher defense did its best to contain Ithaca's (12-2, 7-2 Liberty League) high-powered offense. Although the Bombers entered Friday ranked among the top 10 highest-scoring teams in the country with over 20 goals per game, their 13 goals against the Cardinals are tied for the second-fewest they've scored in 2022.

Cara Landry and Sydney Carpenter combined to give the Cardinals a brief lead in the first quarter. Landy tied the game at 1-1 at 8:57, and 2:05 later, Carpenter found the back of the net to make it a 2-1 score. The Bombers, however, went on a 6-0 run and held Fisher off the board until Mary Fiorentino netted a goal with 2:00 left before halftime.

Landry led all Cardinals with three goals, while Carpenter logged two goals with a team-high four draw controls. Courtney O'Dea also finished with multiple points on a pair of assists. In goal, junior netminder Lilly Goodsell made a career-high 13 saves.

The Cardinals have less than 24 hours to prepare for their next contest. Fisher returns to Growney Stadium on Saturday, April 23, for a 1:00 p.m. Empire 8 Conference matchup against the Hartwick College Hawks.
