PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's basketball team pushed its winning streak to five on Friday night as the Cardinals defeated visiting Keuka College, 103-75, in an Empire 8 pairing inside Manning and Napier Varsity Gymnasium on Bobby Wanzer Court. With the win, Fisher improved to 18-5 and 12-2 in the conference with two games remaining in the regular season while the Wolves fell to 3-16, 3-8, respectively.
The Cardinals came out red hot to start the game as Fisher shot nearly 75 percent from the floor over the first 10 minutes of play to build up a 37-14 edge.
Facing a steep climb midway through the opening half, Keuka recovered and cut the deficit down to 14 following a 13-4 burst, but the Wolves were unable to match Fisher's size in the paint as the Cardinals knocked down five of their next eight shots including two from downtown as part of a 12-2 run to make it 55-31 with under two minutes to play.
With halftime on the horizon, Keuka climbed back into contention as it drained three consecutive 3-pointers to make it a 17-point affair at the break.
After exchanging baskets over the first six minutes of play, Fisher found a rhythm and orchestrated an 11-0 run after going 4-for-4 from the floor over the next two minutes to open up a 67-48 advantage near the midway point of the half.
Trailing by a hefty margin, the Wolves tried to steal the momentum and scored nine of the game's next 11 points to cut the gap to 21, but Fisher scored six unanswered points of its own to push the lead back to 28 with under seven minutes still showing on the clock.
As the game wore on, Fisher's margin would grow to as many as 28 after scoring the half's final nine points.
Junior
Daniel Cook finished with a double-double after accruing 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting to go along with 12 rebounds and five assists.
