Four Score in Double Figures as Men's Basketball Upends Houghton

HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Four players finished in double figures on Tuesday night as the St. John Fisher College men's basketball team secured its eighth win in conference play following a 91-71 win at Houghton College inside the Nielsen Center.  With the win, the Cardinals improved to 14-5 on the year and 8-2 in the Empire 8 standings while the Highlanders fell to 1-17, 1-8, respectively.

Daniel Cook led all scorers with 25 points on 11-of-18 shooting to go along with six rebounds and three steals while Ryan Gentile finished with a season-high 18 points and five assists.  Brendan Trapper added 14 points and seven boards while Jack Foley netted a career-high 14 points in the win.  Sean Williams chipped in with four points, seven assists, four rebounds and a pair of steals in 26 minutes.

After building a comfortable lead following the first half of play, the Cardinals were unable to put the Highlanders away early on in the second half with Houghton cutting the gap to seven points with just under 10 minutes remaining in the game.
From there, the visitors found a rhythm behind the arc with Trapper burying back-to-back 3-pointers as part of a larger 11-2 run that pushed the Cardinals' lead to 18 with 2:16 still showing on the clock.

Trailing by double digits, Houghton would cut the margin to 16, but the Cardinals buried four straight free throws down the stretch en route to the 20-point win.

Offensively, Fisher was 36-for-82 (.439) from the floor and handed out 20 assists in all.  Fisher committed just nine turnovers in the win and forced the Highlanders in to 25 giveaways on the defensive end of the court.

The Cardinals will look to build on Tuesday's momentum at 7:30 p.m. on Friday when they welcome Hartwick College to Manning and Napier Varsity Gymnasium for an Empire 8 clash on Bobby Wanzer Court.
