PITTSFORD N.Y. - 18 members of the St. John Fisher College men's basketball team contributed in the scoring column as the Cardinals honored its seniors on Saturday as they defeated Hartwick College, 108-69, in an Empire 8 matchup inside Manning and Napier Varsity Gymnasium on Bobby Wanzer Court. With the Senior Day victory, Fisher improves to 15-5 overall, and 9-2 in Empire 8 play, while Hartwick falls to 0-15, and 0-7 in conference play.
Five athletes on the men's basketball team were recognized and celebrated for their senior season including
Sean Williams,
Brendan Trapper,
Ian Duncan,
Ryan Gentile, and
Jackson Sullivan.
Going for its seventh straight win against the Hawks, Fisher opened the game on a 19-4 run behind four points in the paint by Sullivan and a deep three by
Connor Williams.
From there, the Cardinals extended their lead up to 32-12 after an offensive rebound gave
Daniel Cook an and-one layup.
Pushing the pace, Fisher closed out the first half on a 14-5 run led by eight points from
Matt Panara off the bench, giving the home team a comfortable 55-23 advantage at the break.
The Cardinals continued their offensive efficiency in the second half as Trapper had his senior moment finding his way down the lane for a dunk as Fisher broke the game open 74-34.
With just under four minutes to go, the Cardinal bench entered the game and solidified the senior day victory, 108-69.
Trapper led the scoring with 17 points, followed by Cook who produced his 12th double-double of the year with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Panara finished with 10 points while
Connor Williams, Sullivan and
Joe Morrell all tallied nine points.
As a team, the Cardinals shot .50% from the field and .34% from deep, while allowing the Hawks to shoot just .32% from the field. Defensively, Fisher forced 17 turnovers resulting in 18 points off turnovers along with 23 fast break points.
The Cardinals will look to keep the momentum going as they return to action at 3 p.m. on Sunday against Russell Sage inside Manning and Napier Varsity Gymnasium.
