Women’s Basketball Impress Against Clarkson

POTSDAM, NY – The St. John Fisher University women's basketball team was on the road on Friday, traveling to Clarkson University for their final game of the 2022 calendar year. The Cardinals were dominant from the beginning and earned an 86-45 victory over the Golden Knights. Fisher now holds a record of 7-2, while Clarkson fall to 2-5.
 
Clarkson scored the first basket of the game, but back-to-back makes by Kaitlyn Walker helped the team reclaim the lead. Half way through the first quarter, they began to pull away beginning with another score by Walker, followed by Claire Kruszka making a three and layup by Anna Milham to give the Cardinals a double-digit advantage. The Golden Knights attempted to stay in the game, cutting the deficit to ten points, but Tessa Schuey, Milham and Lauren Nawojski all made layups to put the team in front 25-9 at the end of the first quarter.
 
The second frame was similar to the first and the Cardinals began to push their lead further. A few minutes in, a Walker layup put the team in front 29-9. Sidney Tomasso, Walker and Nawojski contributed points to extend the scoring and push Fisher in front by 30 points. At the end of the first half, the Cardinals led the Golden Knights 46-17.
 
The team maintained their pressure in the second half, pushing their advantage to as much as 37 points in the third quarter and 49 in the fourth. When the final horn sounded, the Cardinals took home the victory by a final score of 86-45.
 
Walker led the way with 20 points, seven rebounds, one steal and one block. Tomasso scored 18 points of her own, while collecting six rebounds. Kruszka played 27 minutes and in that time she contributed 15 points, six rebounds, two assists and three steals. Nawojski was the other double-digit scorer, coming off the bench to collect 13 points, six rebounds and shot 5-for-8.
 
The Cardinals return to action on Tuesday, January 3 when they hit the road to Utica University for a 5:30 p.m. matchup.
