PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's soccer team hosted the Empire 8 Conference Tournament semi-finals on Thursday and welcomed Utica University. After 90 minutes of non-stop action, the Cardinals' season ended, falling to the Pioneers 5-3. Fisher now holds a record of 8-3-6.
Emma Osterhoudt got the scoring started in the eighth minute by settling the ball 20 yards out and sending it past the bottom left of the goalie. Utica was not fazed however and in three minutes, they knocked in the equalizer. In the 18th minute, Osterhoudt recorded her brace with a header off of an assist by
Grace Wolsieffer to put the team in front 2-1. However, under five minutes late the Pioneers once again tied the game with a goal of their own. In the final seconds of the first half, Utica converted a penalty to take a 3-2 advantage in the break.
Emma Spelman had the first shot of the second half, but it was blocked in the opening minutes. In the 64th and 67th minute, the Pioneers knocked in goals to go in front 5-2.
Megan Letta attempted to spark the team's offense in the 83rd minute with a goal to cut the deficit to 5-3.
Tori Cruz had a free-kick attempt that hit the crossbar. Ryann Dauksza had the final attempt of the game, but it was saved by the Utica goalie and the team fell by a final score of 5-3.
