PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's field hockey team will prepare for the Empire 8 championship tournament as they get set to host the Houghton Highlanders in the semi-finals. The Cardinals finished the regular season with an 8-10 record, going 7-2 in the conference. The Cardinals are hoping to secure their third consecutive Empire 8 title and fourth overall.

Season Summary: Fisher enters the tournament having won four consecutive league games. The sophomore tandem of Emma Cooper and Molly Fisher has led the Cardinals. Cooper leads the team in scoring (27 points) on 10 goals and seven assists, while Fisher has a team-best 12 goals. Graduate student Gianna Palma has continued to play a pivotal role on the team, tallying 22 points on seven goals and is credited with eight assists. In the net, Sophia Trozzi has made 99 saves and has recorded eight victories this season.

Scouting the Rivals: The Cardinals were able to score three goals and claim a 3-1 victory over the Highlanders when the two met in the regular season. The defense for the Cardinals was strong, allowing just one shot to their seven in the first 30 minutes of play. The first goal for the Cardinals came in the 13th minute off the stick of Audrey Grieb. The second goal of the game came in the third quarter, when Sam Choate scored off a penalty corner. Seeking to close the gap, Houghton played more aggressively on offense, leading to a goal and bringing the score to 2-1 in the Cardinals favor. Fisher was able to knock in the third goal of the game for the Cardinals in the fourth quarter, eventually leading to the 3-1 victory.

Player to Watch: The player to watch this week is the goalie Trozzi, who has allowed three goals in her last four and has three shutouts this season.
