PITTSFORD, NY – The St. John Fisher University men's basketball team will hit the road this weekend as they travel to Virginia Beach to play in the Virginia Wesleyan Tip-Off Tournament. Fisher will compete against Pfeiffer University on Friday Nov. 11th at 7pm. On Saturday Nov. 12th, the team will play the winner of Colby-Sawyer/Virginia Wesleyan game which will be played on Friday.
The Cardinals took defeat on Tuesday night when they faced Hobart College in their first game of the season. After a battle Fisher fell by a score of 65-88. The weekend tournament brings new opportunity for the Cardinals to bounce back and get their first win on the season. This is the first time Fisher will compete against Pfeiffer University in program history.
Falcons to Watch: Fisher will be the Falcon's first game of the season. On Monday, the team played an exhibition game against High Point University. The Falcon's put up 71 points on High point, but still fell short by a score of 71-109. First year Doug Smith and Rashamel Butler lead the team in points with both finishing with 10. Smith also contributed six rebounds to lead the team in that category. Butler also tallied three rebounds and one assist. Jordan Byrd and Ty Black had eight points and one assist.
Second Matchup Highlights: Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team has yet to take the stage this season. There first match up will be against Virginia Wesleyan Friday night. The Chargers have their top three scores returning from last year. Scott Lampron, Omar Boone, and Kevin Cummings. Last season the Chargers finished with a 9-15 overall record.
Virginia Wesleyan was victorious in their season opener, defeating Regent University 76-51.
Anthony Jackson led the Marlins offense with 17 points behind five three-pointers.
Omari DeVeaux added 16 points shooting 7-for-10 from the field and
Miles Wallace rounded out the top scorers with 10 points after scoring three treys.
Amari Moorer led the defensive boards with 10 rebounds with
Jordan Crump tallying five, and Wallace and DeVeaux both adding four apiece.
Fisher Players to Watch: Stand out player from last season,
Daniel Cook, led the team in Tuesday night's match up against Hobart. He led the teams in points with 18, and four rebounds. Grad Student,
Brendan Trapper, will also be a player to watch going into this weekend. He tallied 15 points and two rebounds on the night.
