PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's volleyball team will play three home games this weekend, including two Empire 8 conference matchups. The Cardinals will begin their week by playing Houghton College on Friday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. in the Manning & Napier Varsity Gym before taking on Medaille College Saturday, Oct. 8 at 12 p.m. They will then wrap up their weekend with a matchup with Elizabethtown College Saturday, Oct. 8 at 4 p.m.

Last Saturday's win over Hartwick was the fifth straight for the Cardinals (9-4, 4-0 Empire 8). Fisher sits in first place in the Empire 8 conference. Houghton (6-10, 3-1 Empire 8) dropped a non-conference game on Tuesday night, as they currently are tied with Hartwick for second place in the Empire 8. Medaille (4-14, 2-2 Empire 8) has dropped two straight and now is in third place in the conference. Elizabethtown holds a 13-4 record overall.

CARDINALS OF THE WEEK: Sydney French was named Co-Player of the Week by the Empire 8 Conference after a strong performance by the middle blocker. In three matches, French totaled 25 kills and 49 attempts to hit 0.469. French also contributed an assist, three digs, and three blocks to finish with 27.0 total points this week.

In the win over Hartwick, French totaled 11 kills, tying a career high that was set Oct. 22, 2021 against Keuka College.

French was not the only Cardinal to be recognized this week, as first year Kiera Hartpence was named Rookie of the Week by the conference. The libero finished her strong week with 32 digs and only one error, and she also added six service aces.

ALL I DO IS WIN: The Cardinals have won five straight, their longest win-streak this season. In those five contests, the Cardinals have not dropped a set, outscoring opponents 379-237. The win streak is the longest since the Cardinals won 10-straight last season.

Fisher has won six straight against Houghton, besting them last season 3-0. When Fisher last met Medaille in 2019, the Cardinals won 3-0, improving their win streak over the Mavericks to 8 games. The Cardinals have yet to compete against Elizabethtown College.

PLAYER TO WATCH: The player of the week to watch is Delayne Young, who continues to have an impressive offensive season. Young leads the Cardinals in kills (119), points per set (3.54), kills per set (2.64), total attempts (396), and service aces (31).

Over the course of two prior season, Young had totaled 30 aces. After eight total aces last week, the junior has now topped her previous career total with 31 aces this season alone.
Young finished with 15 kills in the win over Hartwick, and 26 in the three games last week, hitting 0.290. Expect the Cardinals to continue to feed Young for the big kill.

SENIOR DAY: The Cardinals will celebrate their four seniors on Saturday in their 4 p.m. match against Elizabethtown. The seniors being celebrated will be French, Kiana Walker, Lindsey Debonis and Katie Leaty.
