FREDONIA, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's volleyball team were on the road on Friday and the Cardinals fought in all three sets to take the 3-0 victory. Fisher moves to 18-6 on the year, and the Blue Devils fall to 4-19 on the year.
The Cardinals fell behind 2-1 early in the first set, but they quickly rattled off seven straight points to reclaim the lead. Fisher continued to make their runs with
Lindsey DeBonis, Kiana Walker and
Kristen McIntosh all recording kills as the team took the first frame 25-12. In the second set, the team once again were down early, but after facing a 5-2 deficit, the team took advantage of Fredonia mistakes to take the lead at 6-5. The two units went back and forth throughout the set, with the biggest lead coming late in the frame with the Cardinals collected three straight points to go in front 21-16. They ended the set with a 25-21 win, off a service error by the Blue Devils.
The third set began similarly to the first two, with Fredonia jumping in front 7-2. Four straight points by the Cardinals brought them back to within one and a few rallies later, on kills by Madalyn Bouton and DeBonis, the team took the lead 11-10. Late in the set, Fisher was down 19-17, but proceeded to outscore the Blue Devils 8-3 to take the set and the match. DeBonis finished the day with 14 kills on a .353 hitting percentage to go along with 13 digs. Walker added seven kills of her own, with 19 digs. Leaty continues her impressive year by distributing 21 assists.
The regular season wraps up for the Cardinals on Saturday, Oct. 29 when they travel to Buffalo State to play against the host Bengals and the University of Rochester at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
