ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's volleyball team was on the road on Friday, for day one of the RIT Brick City Invitational. They took on the host Tigers and fell 3-0 to move their overall record to 12-6 on the season. RIT push their record to 8-15 on the year.
In the first set, the Cardinals fell behind early, but a kill by
Sydney French and ace by
Kiana Walker cut their deficit to 12-8. Later in the frame, they went on a 4-0 run with kills by
Delayne Young and
Olivia Nellis, and two
Katie Leaty Aces in between and it brought them within three points. They were unable to make a final push to overtake the Tigers and they dropped the first set 25-18.
In the second set, Fisher used a 6-1 run to even the score at 7-7. Lindsey Debonis,
Madalyn Bouton and Leaty all had kills in that run. RIT began to pull away and once again defeated the Cardinals 25-17. In the third set, the Cardinals kept it close for the first half, but runs by the Tigers kept the Fisher offense at bay. The Cardinals fell 25-15 in the third frame.
DeBonis totaled eight kills, with Walker and French added four each. Leaty tallied 13 assists and four digs.
The Cardinals continue the invitational on Saturday when they take on Clark University at 11 a.m. and Worcester Polytechnic Institute at 1 p.m.
