PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University schedule is set for the 2022-23 Men's Basketball season. Last year the Cardinals were 19-7 and 13-3 in Empire 8 play. They went into the conference championship tournament as a three-seed and fell in the first round to the no. 2 seed, and eventual champion, Nazareth College. They will look to get back to the E8 championship game after winning it in 2019-20.
Season Start: The new campaign with begin on Tuesday, Nov. 8 as Fisher travels to Hobart College for the season opener. The game will tip-off at 7 p.m. The team was victorious over the Pioneers last year, securing a 74-61 victory at home.
Home Opener: The Cardinals will have their home opener on Friday, Dec. 2, which is when they will have their first conference game. They will welcome Alfred University to the Manning and Napier Varsity Gym for a 7:30 p.m. tip. Fisher is currently on a five game win streak against the Saxons and defeated them twice last year by a total margin of 32.
Tournaments: Men's Basketball will be a part of three tournaments throughout the season. The first is the Virginia Wesleyan Tip-Off Tournament on Nov. 11-12. They will head to Virginia Beach to take on Pfeiffer University on Nov. 11 and then play against either the Marling or Colby-Sawyer. The next weekend, the Cardinals will play in the Marks Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout hosted by RIT and will feature University of Rochester, Nazareth College, Fisher and the host Tigers.
The final tournament of the regular season, is the Medgar Evers Tournament on Dec. 29-30 and will have Miserecordia University, SUNY Canton and host Medgar Evers. Fisher will player Miserecordia on Dec. 29 at 4:30 PM and then take on either the Roos or the Cougars on Dec. 30.
University at Buffalo: The Cardinals will be traveling to Buffalo to take on UB on Tues. Dec. 6. The game will be an exhibition for Fisher, but it is a fun opportunity for the student-athletes to compete at a Division One facility. Last season when the two teams met, the Bulls were victorious 100-58.
Conference Games: The first pair of conference games will be at home against Alfred University and Elmira College on Dec. 2 and Dec. 3 respectively. The long stretch of E8 games begins on Tuesday, Jan. 3 when they travel to Utica University. The Cardinals will play their rivals, Nazareth College, twice this season and the first will me at home. It will be an early week battle with the two teams meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 24 in the Manning and Napier Varsity Gym. The second game will be towards the end of the year, with the Golden Flyers hosting on Saturday, Feb. 11.
