Nationally-Ranked Women's Basketball Tripped up in Regional Pairing at Ithaca

ITHACA, N.Y. – The nationally-ranked St.t John Fisher College women's basketball team had its four-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday as the Cardinals, who are ranked as high as 19th in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association national poll, suffered a 76-54 defeat at the hands of the Ithaca College Bombers in a non-conference tilt inside Ben Light Gymnasium.  With the loss, Fisher fell to 14-2 on the year while the Bombers, who have now won eight straight, improved to 13-3 overall.

Leah Koonmen led Fisher with 14 points to go along with seven rebounds while Miranda Lynch was 5-for-12 for 13 points off the bench.  Claire Kruszka finished with 11 points, eight rebounds and four assists while Kaitlyn Walker chipped in with six points and six rebounds of her own in the loss.

After falling behind 13 points to close out the opening half, Fisher would cut the gap to 10 points early on in the third quarter.  From there, Ithaca connected from distance on four straight possessions to build a 20-point edge and never looked back.

As a team, Fisher 19-of-59 from the field and was out-rebounded, 46-41.  The Cardinals committed an uncharacteristic 21 turnovers and shot just 50 percent from the free throw line overall.

The Cardinals will return to conference plat at 5:30 p.m. on Friday when they travel to Keuka College to take on the Wolves.
