No. 25 Women's Basketball Moves Winning Streak to Three Following Victory at Alfred

ALFRED, N.Y. – The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College women's basketball team ran its winning streak to three games on Tuesday as the Cardinals upended the Alfred University Saxons, 67-28, in an Empire 8 pairing inside the Terry S. Galanis Family Arena.  With the win, Fisher, which is ranked 25th in the latest D3hoops.com national poll, improved to 13-1 on the year and 5-1 in the Empire 8 standings while the Saxons fell to 6-8, 1-4, respectively, following the loss.

Sophomore Claire Kruszka finished with a game-high 20 points to go along with five rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals while Sidney Tomasso, who was tabbed the Empire 8 Rookie of the Week on Monday, added 10 points and three assists in 16 minutes.  Kaitlyn Walker and Miranda Lynch each netted nine points in the win while Leah Koonmen contributed four points and six rebounds in all.

The Cardinals controlled the tempo from the opening whistle and used a 15-1 run to close out the opening period with a 23-6 edge.  As the second quarter got underway, Fisher's lead grew to as many as 30 in the first half before the Saxons trimmed the margin to 26 heading into the break.

Holding a sizeable advantage with two quarters left in play, the Cardinals' edge grew to as many as 42 points late in the fourth frame before the final whistle sounded on the team's fifth win in league play.

As a team, Fisher was 24-of-63 (.381) from the floor and knocked down 11 from distance.  Fisher dominated the glass and out-rebounded its host, 57-36, including 18 on the offensive end of the floor.  Defensively, Fisher held Alfred to just 11 field goals and forced the Saxons in to 14 turnovers on the night.

The Cardinals will go for their fourth win a row at 5:30 p.m. on Friday when they return home to host Houghton College inside Manning and Napier Varsity Gymnasium on Bobby Wanzer Court.
