No. 25 Women's Basketball Rolls Elmira in Lopsided Victory

ELMIRA, N.Y. – For the second time in as many days, the nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College women's basketball team posted a lopsided win as the Cardinals defeated host Elmira College, 73-45, on Saturday afternoon in an Empire 8 contest inside Speidel Gymnasium.  With the win, Fisher, which is ranked 25th in the latest D3hoops.com national poll, improved to 12-1 on the season and 4-1 in the league standings while the Soaring Eagles closed out the weekend at 6-7, 1-4, respectively.

Kaitlyn Walker posted her seventh double-double of the year with 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting to go along with 11 rebounds while Miranda Lynch added 13 points off the bench including two 3-pointers.  Sidney Tomasso produced 11 points and nabbed two boards while Claire Kruszka netted nine points to go along with six rebounds, five assists and five steals.  Leah Koonmen had six points in the win while Lauren Petrie contributed five points in 12 minutes.

It was all Fisher from the opening whistle as head coach Melissa Kuberka's team began the game with an 18-2 run over the first 5:17 of play.  From there, Fisher continued to push the pace and built a 26-point cushion heading into the second quarter.

Holding a significant lead with 10 minutes in the books, Fisher didn't let up as the Cardinals' lead would grow to as many as 39 points before a late run by Elmira cut the gap to 36 at intermission.

Coming out of the break, Fisher saw its lead slip to 24 points, but that was as close as Elmira would get as the visitors' advantage was never in doubt.

As a team, Fisher was 23-of-68 from the floor and converted 19 of its 30 free throws.  The Cardinals held a decisive advantage on the glass after out-rebounding the Soaring Eagles, 52-44, and forced Elmira in to 29 turnovers.

The Cardinals will look to make it three wins in a row at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday when they travel to Alfred to take on the Saxons in Empire 8 action.
