PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's tennis team got back to its winning ways on Saturday as the Cardinals handed visiting Alfred University a 9-0 loss in an Empire 8 pairing inside Mendon Racquet and Pool Club. With the win, Fisher climbed to 3-3 and 2-1 in the conference standings while the Saxons fell to 1-6, 0-2, respectively.
The Cardinals earned all three points in singles play with
Mikayla Santulli and
Kathryn Strait taking the first flight, 8-6.
Madison Galvin and
Keely Legnard posted an 8-4 win at second doubles while
Jacqueline Chouinard and
Riley Ellis followed suit with an 8-4 decision of their own at third doubles.
In individual play, Strait was a winner at first singles behind a 6-1, 6-2 effort while Santulli posted a 6-2, 6-3 win at second singles.
Legnard pulled out a straight-set win at third singles, 6-3, 6-2 while Galvin came out ahead in the fourth flight behind a 7-6, 6-1 performance. Chouinard took down her opponent at fifth singles, 6-3, 6-2 while Ellis won in the final singles battle, 6-2, 6-3.
The Cardinals will be back in action at 4 p.m. on Saturday when they travel to Houghton to take on the Hiughlanders in another Empire 8 tilt.
