Turnovers Loom Large as Football is Beaten by RPI on the Road

TROY, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College football was on the wrong end a 41-7 score on Saturday as the Cardinals fell to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in a non-conference bout inside East Campus Stadium.  With the defeat, Fisher fell to 2-2 on the year while the Engineers, who are receiving votes in the latest D3football.com national poll, remained unbeaten on the season at 4-0.

It was all RPI over the first two quarters as the hosts jumped out a 34-0 lead at halftime and never looked back.  The Cardinals managed to avoid the shutout in the fourth quarter when Joseph Torrillo completed a 32-yard pass to TySean Sizer that set up a four-yard run by Peyton Nolan for a touchdown to make it 41-7.

Torrillo went 12-for-19 from the pocket for 175 yards in all.  Michael Krafty started at quarterback for the Cardinals and went 2-for-7 with three interceptions.

Malachi Duvall gained 83 yards on 11 carries and had two grabs for 27 yards in all while Dahmir Pross had 17 rushes for 57 yards. Sizer hauled in three catches for 50 yards while Richie Quinn had three receptions for 46 yards.  Chris Park made two catches for 19 yards and Gabe Maloni had 15 yards on one target.

Joe Miscia posted a team-leading 16 tackles while Jason Rodriguez had seven stops and a pass breakup.  Anthony Manna made six tackles for Fisher while Max Bates came up with five tackles at the linebacker position.

Joe Dotterweich punted three times and averaged 34.3 yards on the day.

The Cardinals will look to right the ship at 6 p.m. on Saturday when they host The College at Brockport in Courage Bowl XVI.  Tickets are on sale and can be purchased online or in person.
