Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Three Score Their First Goals of the Season as Field Hockey Takes 3-2 OT Victory

OSWEGO, N.Y. – After falling behind by two goals, the St. John Fisher College field hockey team stormed back spoil the Oswego State Lakers' senior day with a 3-2 overtime victory today at the Laker Turf Stadium. The Cardinals bettered their overall record to 2-3 with the win, as they handed the Lakers just their second loss of the year and fall to 4-2.

Fisher dug itself an early hole, as Oswego placed two goals between the Fisher pipes just before the game's second minute and right after the eight-minute mark.

Although they were already out-shooting the hosts, the Cardinals turned on the jets to place ten shots in the direction of the Lakers' keeper in the second quarter. Following two unlucky corner attempts, Fisher finally found light on its third corner of the quarter, as Gianna Palma connected on a pass from fellow forward, Bre Socker, to score her first goal of the season at the 21-minute mark.

Just three minutes later, Fisher earned another penalty corner, in which the offense crashed the cage and a rebounded shot found the stick of Audrey Grieb who passed to Abby Richardson for a shot that baffled the Lakers keeper to score her first goal of 2021, knotting the score up at two as the game headed into the second half.

The Cardinals continued to stuff the offensive stat sheet in the second half, as they logged 13 shots and four corner attempts to Oswego's three shots and two corners, but all efforts proved unsuccessful as the teams were forced into the winner-take-all overtime period.

After being awarded an early corner, Fisher unloaded four more shots in rapid progression, as a pass from Grieb to Alyssa Andres for a final shot which slipped past the keeper and stunned the Lakers' defense in the 62nd minute – her first goal of the year.

Sophia Trozzi improved to 2-3 between the pipes as the sophomore keeper recorded all 62 minutes in goal with four saves and two goals against.

The Cardinals recorded 36 shots in the contest with 21 of them landing on target. Socker led the charge with 15 attempts while Palma and Molly Fisher tacked on five apiece. Andres had four tries, including the game winner, while Emma Cooper and Grieb each shot three times and Richardson got off just one.

Fisher is back to work this Wednesday night when they welcome East Avenue rival, Nazareth College, to Growney Stadium for an Empire 8 tilt at 7 P.M.
