PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Although the St. John Fisher College women's soccer team outshot their opponents, they fell victim to an 0-4 defeat at the hands of The College at Brockport Golden Eagles on Saturday evening at Growney Stadium. The Cardinals slide to 2-1 in the 2021 campaign with the loss, while Brockport moved to 2-1-1.
Brockport got out to an early lead following a goal just after the minute-mark. Facing the single goal deficit, Fisher turned on the jets to earn three corner kicks and took seven shots, both which outnumbered their opponents in the first 45 minutes of play. However, just three minutes before the game's intermission, the Golden Eagles struck again, extending the lead to two.
Coming out of half time,
Jessica Aldred put an early shot in the direction of the Golden Eagles keeper, but the Cardinals' effort was outlasted by the visitors, as a third goal found the back of the net in the match's 55th minute. Lett than 20 minutes later, Fisher fired off two threatening shots within 40 seconds of each other, but Brockport retaliated once more as they scored their fourth and final goal, a deficit from which Fisher would never recover from, in the 78th minute.
Fisher's offensive effort was split between
Carli Kovarik and
Tori Cruz who each had a trio of shots,
Christina Van Allen and
Kyra Kenyon, who both shot twice, and Aldred,
Jennifer Kirker, and
Emma Osterhoudt as they each took one attempt.
Hannah Robinson, who posted a season-best seven saves in the contest took her first loss in goal on the season as her record between the pipes falls to 1-1.
The Cardinals hit the road for a cross-town battle with the Yellowjackets from the University of Rochester on Tuesday, September 14 at 4 P.M.
