NEW PALTZ, N.Y. –
Bre Socker became the St. John Fisher College field hockey program's all-time leader in assists on Saturday afternoon as she recorded her 34th career helper in a 3-4 loss at SUNY New Paltz at the college's North Turf. The Cardinals fell to 1-3 on the year while the Hawks remained undefeated and moved to 3-0.
Although New Paltz got on the score board just a minute and a half into the contest, but Socker retaliated for the Cardinals just before the 12th minute. With her 79th career goal, the graduate student tied Emily Markarian's program's record for career goals. Her score was assisted by
Audrey Grieb for her first collegiate point.
Following four Fisher corner attempts and eight shots in the ensuing period, the Cardinals put themselves up a goal as
Emma Cooper tipped in her first collegiate goal.
The Hawks scored an equalizer in the contest's 33rd minute, but Socker found Cooper for a shot that rang the back of the net once more, just 28 seconds after New Paltz's goal.
The lead didn't last long, however, as New Paltz found goal twice more in the third period to bring their lead to 4-3. Fisher was hit with an onslaught of 26 shots and 12 corners in the remainder of the game by the Hawks as opposed to the visitor's 6 shots and 1 corner.
Fisher had one more chance to tie up the game in the 58th minute on a corner from Grieb, but Socker's shot was met with a defensive save.
Socker led the way with 12 shots on the day, while Cooper,
Molly Fisher, and
Gianna Palma each recorded two.
Sophia Trozzi played all 60 minutes between the pipes for the Cardinals, while stopping a career-best 12 shots.
Fisher is back on the road this Wednesday, September 15, when they travel to Elmira College for their first Empire 8 competition of the year in a 5 P.M. bout with the Soaring Eagles.
