Baseball Keeps Rolling with Rout of Houghton; Cardinals Allow Just Three Hits in Shutout

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College baseball team routed visiting Houghton College on Wednesday, 21-0, in an Empire 8 contest played at Dugan Yard.  With the win, Fisher, which has already clinched the Empire 8 Regular Season Championship, moved to 26-5 overall and 16-1 in the Empire 8 standings while the Highlanders fell to 18-12, 10-9, respectively.

In all, Fisher used three pitchers and scattered just three hits as the Cardinals recorded their fifth shutout of the year. Hunter Walsh moved to 3-0 on the season after the sophomore threw a career-high seven innings where he allowed three hits and finished with six strikeouts.  Christian O'Brien threw an inning and struck out two in the top of the eighth before Joseph Tronetti struck out the side in the ninth to end the game.

After swapping zeroes over the first four innings, Fisher's offense came to life with five runs on three hits in the bottom of the fifth including a bases-clearing double off the bat of Adam Zebrowski.

Leading by five, Fisher added two more runs in the seventh when Zebrowski obliterated a fastball for a two-run homerun as the catcher is now tied for the Division III lead with 15 on the season.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Houghton ran out of steam as Fisher sent 20 hitters to the dish and scored 14 runs on 11 hits to push the lead to 21-0 before the Highlanders could retire the side.

Noah Campanelli was 3-for-5 in the win with a double, an RBI and a pair of walks while Zebrowski had three hits on the day including a double and homer to go along with six RBI and four runs scored.  Justin Graham was 2-for-3 with two walks while Luke Duffy had two hits in four at-bats and an RBI.  Ryan Simmons had two hits on the day and James Murphy was 2-for-5 with a double, a triple and a career-high five RBI.

Fisher is scheduled to play at Keuka College on Saturday in another Empire 8 nine-inning affair.  First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
