Trotman Throws No-Hitter as No. 13 Softball Clinches Empire 8 Regular Season Title Behind Sweep of Elmira

ELMIRA, N.Y. – Emily Trotman threw a no-hitter and the nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College softball team swept host Elmira College on Saturday to win the Empire 8 Regular Season Championship and the grab home field advantage throughout the upcoming conference tournament.  With the wins, Fisher, which is ranked 13th in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll, improved to 25-3 overall an 19-1 in the Empire 8 while the Soaring Eagles fell to 5-17, 4-12, respectively.

FISHER 4, ELMIRA 0

Trotman pitched her second career no-no on Saturday and moved to 12-2 in the circle after the senior went seven innings and finished with eight strikeouts.  The East Amherst native fell just shy of a perfect game after hitting one batter in the win.

After trading zeroes over the first four innings of play, Fisher got on the board in the top of the fifth when Maria Marcera singled in Maddie Klidonas who had singled earlier in the frame.
Leading by a run in the sixth, Fisher added to its lead with two more runs on three hits including RBI pokes from Klidonas and Trotman to make it 3-0.

The Cardinals scored again in the top of the seventh after Allie Klonowski doubled down the left field line before being brought in one a sacrifice fly from Rachel Evans.

FISHER 14, ELMIRA 0 (FIVE INNINGS)

Fisher's dominance in the circle carried over to the nightcap as Jess Patterson moved to 13-1 on the year following a two-hitter.  The sophomore pitched four innings overall and allowed just one hit.  Patterson struck out four before being lifted in favor of Jenna Leydecker who gave up one hit and struck out two over an inning of work.

Sammie Torlish was 3-for-5 in the win with two RBI and two runs scored while Trotman had two hits in three-at-bats with three runs scored.  Megan Kreger, Klonowski and Klidonas were each 2-for-2 at the plate while Kenzie Bowerman had one hit and drove in two for head coach Bari Mance's squad.  Evans was 1-for-1 with two RBI and a sac fly.

It didn't take Fisher long to put the home team in a hole after the Cardinals scored three in the top of the first with Evans driving in a run.

Fisher plated four more runs in the top of the second with six hits before adding six more runs on the strength of seven hits and an Elmira error in the third.

Holding a 12-0 edge in the top of the fifth, Fisher continued to see the ball well with Clare Boegel and Kelly Cournoyer each being credited with an RBI as Fisher cruised to a 14-0 win.

Fisher will await word on its opponent as the Empire 8 Championship is set to begin on May 8th with the quarterfinal pairings.  The four-time playoff is scheduled to commence on May 11th at the Softball Complex.  Full details will be released when available.
