ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's tennis team saw its season come to a close as the second-seeded Cardinals fell to top-seeded Nazareth College, 6-3, in the Empire 8 Championship match inside the Golisano Training Center. With the loss, Fisher closed out its season at 6-2 while the Golden Flyers won the conference crown after posting an unbeaten season at 8-0.
After falling in first doubles, Fisher earned two critical points at second and third doubles.
Jacqueline Chouinard and
Valerie Morgans were winners at second doubles behind a score of 8-5 while
Veronika Jurczuk and
Elizabeth Schneider pulled out an 8-5 win at third doubles to push Fisher ahead, 2-1, heading into singles play.
Needing to win four flights to secure the championship, the Golden Flyers took five of six singles matches with Morgans winning her flight, 6-2, 6-2.
Mikayla Santulli was bested at first singles, 6-1, 6-1, while
Kathryn Strait fell at second singles in three sets, 1-6, 7-5, 2-6.
Maddie Galvin lost at fourth singles, 2-6, 7-5, 2-6 while Jurczuk and Chouinard fell at fifth and sixth singles, respectively.
