Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

No. 9 Women's Lacrosse Steamrolls Russell Sage, 24-1

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – 11 different players were credited with at least one point on Saturday as the nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team scored a season-high 24 goals in a 24-1 rout of Russell Sage College in an Empire 8 tilt inside Growney Stadium.  With the win, Fisher, which is ranked ninth in the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association poll, improved to 6-1 and 2-0 in the conference standings while the Gators fell to 2-2 overall and 1-1 against Empire 8 opponents.

Brittany Halpin led all scorers with six goals to go along with one assist, three caused turnovers and a pair of draw controls while Sydney DeGirolamo finished with two goals and five assists along with a game-high 11 draw controls.  Logan Chase netted three goals and assisted on two others while Alexandra Kopcza scored a career-high five points on a goal and four dimes.  Alyssa Sproule contributed two goals and two assists while Erica Knapp tallied three goals and an assist.  Bianca Giacona found the back of the net twice and handed out two assists in the win.  Alyssa Sabotka chipped in with a goal and two assists and Mackenzie Alexander had three goals to her credit.

It didn't take long for Fisher to put Sage in a deep hole as the Cardinals had the clock running just 11 minutes in after jumping ahead, 10-0.  Sage was able to score off a free position, but the Gators would not possess the ball in Fisher's zone again in the opening half as the Cardinals held a 16-1 advantage at halftime.

Coming out of the break, Fisher continued its assault on Sage's back line with five goals in a span of 10 minutes.  From there, the home team netted three more tallies before the final horn sounded.

In goal, Claudia Mocciaro was credited with the win to move to 6-1 on the year as the Syracuse native played 30 minutes before being lifted by Lilly Goodsell who made two saves in 30 minutes of action.

Fisher will continue its two-game home stand at 7 p.m. on Wednesday when it hosts Houghton College on the turf at Growney Stadium.
