No. 11 Women's Lacrosse Celebrates Senior Night With 23-1 Win Over Houghton

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team moved one step closer to clinching the Empire 8 Regular Season Championship on Tuesday as the Cardinals celebrated their senior class with a 23-1 win over visiting Houghton College in an Empire 8 tilt inside Growney Stadium.  With the win, Fisher improved to 11-1 overall and 6-0 in the conference standings while the Highlanders fell to 1-5 on the year and 1-4 against conference competition.

Prior to the opening draw, head coach Linda Michele's team took a moment to honors the seven members on the Cardinals' senior class including Logan Chase, Alexandra Kopcza, Claudia Mocciaro, Erin Mills, Alyssa Sabotka, Samantha Rutkoski and Alyssa Sproule.

In all, Fisher had 11 different players register a point led by Sydney DeGirolamo who finished with a goal and four assists to go along with two ground balls and a game-high nine draw controls.  Chase netted four goals and had four draw controls while Bianca Giacona finished with four points overall including a goal and three helpers.  Sproule, Kopcza, and Erica Knapp each finished with a hat trick while Sabotka and Kathleen Salanger each found the back of the net twice in the win.

In goal, Mocciaro moved to 11-1 on the year after playing 30 minutes in goal before being lifted for Lilly Goodsell who surrendered the Highlander's lone goal.

As a team, Fisher outshot Houghton, 36-3, and had 21 draw controls. The Cardinals were 8-for-8 in clear attempts and forced the Highlanders into 15 turnovers.

Fisher's victory sets up a showdown against rival Nazareth College at 1 p.m. on Saturday with the winner earning the conference's Regular Season Championship and home field advantage throughout next weekend's Empire 8 Championship.
