Socker Scores Three as Field Hockey Closes Out Regular Season With 4-0 Win at Naz

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Fresh off clinching the Empire 8 Regular Season Championship earlier this week, the St. John Fisher College field hockey team closed out its regular season with a 4-0 win over Nazareth College on Sunday afternoon in the team's Empire 8 finale at the Golden Flyer's Artificial Turf Field.  With the win, Fisher enters the postseason with a 4-0 record while the Golden Flyers fell to 1-3 following the defeat.

It was all Fisher from the opening whistle as the Cardinals accounted for eight shots and six penalty corners before Bre Socker punched home the team's first goal on a feed from Allison Bartlett with 59 seconds remaining in the first period to hold a 1-0 edge.

As the second period got underway, Fisher continued to apply the pressure and doubled its advantage at 27:03 after Socker was scored on a penalty stroke to make it a two-goal affair heading into the halftime break.

Ahead by a pair, Fisher added to its lead in the fourth quarter when Ashley Wightman sent a pass that ricocheted off the stick of Socker and into the back of the goal for the senior's third mark of the afternoon.

With the game well in hand and time running down in the fourth quarter, Fisher tacked on another goal as Gianna Palma found the back of the net in the 59th minute to give Fisher a 4-0 edge.

Sophia Trozzi moved to 4-0 in goal for the Cardinals as the freshman made five saves over 60 minutes of action.

The Cardinals, who earned the top overall seed in the Empire 8 Championship and home field throughout, will host a semifinal matchup on Friday evening at Growney Stadium.
