PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's basketball team forced visiting Medaille College into 23 turnovers as the Cardinals rolled over the Mavericks, 93-46, on Thursday in a non-conference pairing inside Manning and Napier Varsity Gymnasium on Bobby Wanzer Court. With the win, Fisher improved to 6-2 overall while Medaille slipped to 0-2 with the loss.
Fisher set the tempo early as the Cardinals outscored the Mavericks 23-6 in the first period and forced their guest into six turnovers in all. Fisher was 10-for-21 from the floor including three from behind the arc and held Medaille to just two field goals on 16 attempts leading into the second period.
The Cardinals kept their foot on the gas as the second quarter got underway and built a 26-point cushion after scoring seven unanswered points including three from
Claire Kruszka to open up a 36-10 advantage.
As the first half ticked down, Medaille was able to cut the deficit to 22 points following a 3-pointer with just three seconds showing on the clock as Fisher took a 44-22 lead into the break.
Medaille came out of the locker room with a chip on its shoulder as the Mavericks strung together a 10-4 run to cut it to a 16-point game, but the Cardinals weathered the storm and scored nine unanswered points of their own down the stretch to regain control.
After building a 27-point lead through three quarters, Fisher continued to roll as the Cardinals buried five of their first nine shots from the floor to extend their advantage to 34 points with just over five minutes left in the game.
Ahead 78-44, the Cardinals closed out the game on a 15-0 run that was fueled by three from downtown to earn the 47-point win.
Kruszka finished with a career-high 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting. The freshman grabbed six rebounds and was perfect from distance at 5-for-5.
Kaitlyn Walker notched her second double-double of the year with 10 points and 10 rebounds while
Anna Milham netted 13 points in the win.
Lauren Nawojski scored 10 points off the bench and
Hannah Morse contributed seven points and a game-high seven assists.
Amy Gardner added eight points and six rebounds in 27 minutes.
The Cardinals will return to Empire 8 play at 2 p.m. on Saturday when they travel to Alfred to duke it out with the Saxons.
