PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team was dominant on the defensive end of the field on Friday afternoon after holding visiting Clarkson University to just five shots in a 14-1 rout inside Growney Stadium. With the win, Fisher, which is ranked 13th in the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association poll, improved to 2-0 on the year while the Golden Knights ended the day at 0-1.
After feeling out the Golden Knights' defense over the first five minutes of play, the Cardinals got on the board first following a Clarkson yellow card as

Holding a sizeable advantage with halftime quickly approaching, Fisher was awarded another free position as
Alyssa Sproule fired a shot low that found its mark to give the Cardinals a five-goal margin at the break.
Coming out of intermission, Clarkson looked to cut into Fisher's lead with a goal at the 26:28 mark of the second period, but that was all the Cardinals' defense would allow as Fisher limited its opponent to just one shot in the second half.
Ahead by four goals, Fisher continued to apply the pressure on the offensive end of the field as Sproule, Alexander and Halpin each scored unassisted tallies to make it 8-1 with just over 19 minutes remaining in the contest.
From there,
Bianca Giacona found
Alyssa Sabotka for one of two second half goals while DeGirolamo assisted on back-to-back marks to open up a 10-goal lead that keep the clock running with under 10 minutes to play. Fisher continued to pad its lead at 8:36 when
Kathleen Salanger netted her first goal of the season before Sabotka and Giacona capped off the scoring as the final horn sounded.
In all, nine different players scored a goal in the win with Sabotka leading the way with three. Chase stuffed the stat sheet with two goals, five ground balls, three draw controls and two caused turnovers while
Erin Mills had three caused turnovers and three ground balls. Alexander led Fisher with six draw controls to go along with a goal and an assist while DeGirolamo had four points on the night including three assists and was credited with four draws.
