Four Second Half Goals Clinch Women's Soccer's Third Straight E8 Postseason Appearance in 4-0 Victory Over Keuka

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's soccer team used four second-half goals to secure their spot in the 2021 Empire 8 Conference Tournament on Wednesday night under the lights at Growney Stadium as the Cardinals downed the visiting Keuka Wolves, 4-0, on Breast Cancer Awareness Night. Not only did the Cardinals clinch their third straight berth in the conference championship, they also bettered their record to 8-5-1 overall and 4-2-1 within conference, while they set Keuka back to 3-11-3 and stopped their league record at 2-4-2.

Despite neither team etching their name on the scoreboard in the first half, Fisher dominated play from the very get-go, as the home squad unleashed eight attempts at goal and a corner kick to the visitor's three shots.

Just a minute out of the intermission, the Cardinals found their way to the offensive side of the field early as they earned a corner kick, taken by Emma Spelman. The kick bent right back towards the Keuka keeper, slipped through her grasp, and fell into the back of the net, which opened up the night's scoring.

Three minutes later, Spelman found herself free with the ball on a rope on the far side of the field, as she sent a scorcher toward the middle of the field to be chipped in by striker, Carli Kovarik, putting the Cardinals up two goals early in the second half.

The Cardinals weren't done there, though, as Kovarik raced the Wolves' keeper to a fifty-fifty ball at the top of the 18-yard box in the 65th minute. There, she placed a touch to win possession and another to send a slow roller to the corner of the cage, scoring her second goal of the night and Empire 8-leading 12th goal of the season.

Fisher then had one last opportunity to make their final mark on the night, as Jessica Aldred took a 72nd-minute corner kick. The ball was altered midair by Kathleen Rachwal and found its way to the back of the net for the freshman's first career goal and Cardinals' fourth and final goal of the evening. Molly Romano then made use of her team's depth as all of the eligible field players on her roster saw playing time in the 90-minute affair.

The pink-clad keeper, Halle Tickell, earned the shutout between the posts, as she was relieved in the game's 82nd minute by Olivia Relyea. Both keepers made one save each in the contest, while the senior keeper's record improved to 7-4-1.

Kovarik led the offensive charge for the Cardinals as she uncorked fife shots, while Spelman and Kayla Rhude each tallied a pair and the remaining eight shots were split by Rachwal, Emma Osterhoudt, Tori Cruz, Jennifer Kirker, Isabella Guarracino, Alexandra Price, Grace Hainsworth, and Kyra Kenyon.

Fisher ties up the regular season at home this Saturday, October 30 at 2 P.M., as they host Elmira College and honor their seven seniors on Senior Day at Growney Stadium
