Socker Sets Two Records and Ties Two Others as Field Hockey Dominates Sage

ALBANY, N.Y. – Graduate student Bre Socker made history on several fronts on Friday as the St. John Fisher College field hockey snapped a two-game skid behind a 7-0 win over Russell Sage College in an Empire 8 match at Alumni Field.  With the win, Fisher moved to 4-5 on the year and remained atop the conference standings at 2-0 while the Gators fell to 1-8, 0-3, respectively.

Socker's performance on Friday broke two long-standing records as she became the program's all-time leader in goals scored with 84 after passing two-time All-American Emily Markarian's mark of 79. The Liverpool native also tied the Empire 8's scoring mark with 84 career tallies and became the conference's all-time leader in career points with 204 to her credit.

In all, Socker finished with five goals on nine shots, which matched her single-season record for the most goals scored in a single game.  Gianna Palma added three points of her own with a goal and an assist while Molly Fisher found the back of the goal once to give her five goals on the season.

It didn't take long for Socker to break Fisher's scoring record as she unloaded a shot past the Gators' keeper just 70 seconds after the opening whistle to stake the Cardinals to a 1-0 edge.  Less than five minutes later, Socker struck again to double the lead to two leading into the second quarter.

With the lead well in hand, Socker tacked on another goal in the 19th minute as Fisher took a three-goal lead into the break.

With the third quarter underway, Fisher put the gators on ice with three goals in a span of nearly seven minutes including two from Socker to open up a commanding six-goal cushion.  Head coach Victoria Bothner's squad padded its advantage late in the game after Fisher delivered a strike into the back of the cage with just 31 seconds still showing on the clock.

In goal, Sophia Trozzi moved to 4-5 on the year after playing 30 minutes in goal before giving way to Senja Matson who played the second half.  Neither faced a shot in the win.

The Cardinals will look to build on Friday's win at 4 p.m. on Wednesday when they host the Utica College Pioneers in a critical Empire 8 showdown inside Growney Stadium.
