SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse team fell to Union College on Wednesday night by a score of 16-11 in a battle between two nationally-ranked teams. The 12th ranked Cardinals drop to 3-2 on the year while the 10th ranked Dutchmen move to 4-1 overall.
Nicholas Miller and
Samuel Miller each scored three goals on the night.
Ian Evans posted two goals while
Jack Mulvihill had a three-point night with one goal and two assists.
Fisher got itself in two-goal hole to start the game but started to chip way and make it a one-goal game at 4-3 late in the first on a goal by
Samuel Miller. Another goal by
Samuel Miller to lead off the second put the score at 5-4 in favor of Union.
After the Dutchmen went back up by two, the Cardinals answered with three-straight scores.
Nicholas Miller tallied back-to-back scores and then with just over 20 seconds remaining in the half, Mulvihill found
Jordan Depetres for the tally to give Fisher its first lead of the game at 7-6 heading into the break.
The Dutchmen dominated the third quarter outscoring the Cardinals, 7-1, in the period. Fisher went on a late rally with three goals down the stretch in the fourth, however, it could not overcome the large lead Union built.
Joe Post went 18-of-28 at the faceoff x while grabbing a game-high 13 ground balls.
Kyle Rochester caused a game-high three turnovers. As a team, Fisher caused 11 turnovers to Union's 10. The Cardinals also went 88 percent on clear attempts.
The Cardinals will next head to Oswego State on Saturday to face the Lakers at 3 p.m.
