ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team was unable to topple University of Rochester as the Cardinals lost the cross-town matchup at Fauver Stadium, 3-0. The Cardinals dropped to 1-7 while the Yellowjackets improved to 6-2.
Play was deadlocked throughout the first 20 minutes of play until the Yellowjackets broke open the scoring on a top corner shot that extended just past the reach of Fisher keeper,
Aaron Smith.
The Cardinals were tightly defended by the nationally-ranked Yellowjackets, as they did not register a shot in the first half.
Following the intermission, Fisher found some breathing room and was able to uncork three shots, two which landed on goal.
Justin Bonetto,
Joe Balls, and
Ben Conrow were responsible for the offensive attack.
The University of Rochester was able to find the scoring column twice more in the second half which the Cardinals were unable to bounce back from.
Smith recorded every minute in goal for the Cardinals and made three saves over the course of the evening. The sophomore's record now sits at 1-5 with a season save percentage of .723.
The Cardinals are back at home at 1 p.m. this Saturday afternoon, September 24, as Fisher welcomes Utica College to Growney Stadium for an Empire 8 battle.
