No. 16 Women's Lacrosse Shuts Out Elmira For Its Ninth Consecutive Victory

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The No. 16 St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team shutout Elmira College 22-0 in conference action on Saturday afternoon as the Cardinals extended their winning streak to nine games. With the victory, Fisher improves to 10-1 overall on the season and 3-0 in the Empire 8, while the Soaring Eagles fall to 1-10 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

With its 10th win of the season, Fisher also remains perfect on home turf with a 6-0 overall record, while also notching its second shutout victory of the season. 14 different Cardinals would find the back of the net in the game, with Logan Chase and Mary Grace Doyle leading the way with three goals apiece.

The Cardinals got the goal scoring started early and often in the conference matchup as Fisher was able to find the back of the net seven times, within the first eight minutes of action. The early goal scorers included Chase, Doyle, Olivia Marziale, Sydney DeGirolamo, Allison Rupp, and Emily Thompson.

As the first half continued the Fisher defense held strong, while the Fisher offense would score 10 more times before the halftime break. Junior Mallory Eymer scored her conference-leading 31st goal of the season at the 18:22 mark, which puts her one point away from 100 total for her career.

As the first half of action concluded with Fisher leading 17-0, the Cardinal goal scorers included Doyle, Chase, Thompson, Maria Hristodoulou, Bianca Giacona, Kathleen Salanger, and Hayley Maguire.

As the second 30 minuite half got underway, Alyssa Sabotka  took a feed from Giacona and opened the second half scoring for the Cardinals at the 24:03 mark.

From there, Fisher was able to beat the Elmira goalkeeper four more times before time expired as Giacona, Maguire, Brittany Halpin, and Brenna Wilson all added to the Cardinal lead.

As a team, Fisher assisted on eight of its goals with DeGirolamo and Rupp leading the way with two assists apiece. The Cardinals also dominated in the draw control category, grabbing 22 of the game's 23 total draws.

Defensively, Alexandra Kopcza led the way with two caused turnovers, while Maguire finished with two ground balls and two draw controls. Claudia Mocciaro was credited with her seventh victory in goal for the Cardinals after seeing the first half of action as Morgan Hayes was between the pipes for the second half.

Fisher will look to make it 10 wins in a row on Wednesday at 4 p.m. when it welcomes Utica College to Growney Stadium for another Empire 8 Conference matchup.
