Evans Drives in Four as Softball Splits with Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Rachel Evans blasted her second home run of the season and drove in all four runs on Tuesday as the Cardinals split with the University of Rochester in a non-conference doubleheader at Southside Field.  With the split, the Cardinals closed out the day at 8-9 overall.

FISHER 3, ROCHESTER 1

One swing of the bat proved to be the difference-maker as Evans crushed a big three-run home run in the top of the first while Emily Trotman shut the Yellowjackets down over seven innings of work.

After retiring Fisher's leadoff hitter to begin the game, Trotman helped her cause with a single down the left field line.  With a runner on and one away, Ashley Prince kept the momentum going with a single up the middle to put two on.  Evans stepped in with a runner in scoring position and mashed a towering shot over the center field fence to make it 3-0 heading to the home half of the first.

In the bottom of the inning, Rochester fired back with a run of its own, but managed just two hits over the next four innings.  In the bottom of the sixth, the home team pulled to within one run courtesy of a sacrifice fly to make it 3-2, but Trotman was able to work her way out of the jam as the Yellowjackets stranded three heading to the top of the seventh.

Trotman moved to 6-4 with the win after the sophomore pitched seven innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits in that stretch.

ROCHESTER 6, FISHER 1

Allison Rogowski took to the circle in the second game as the freshman moved to 2-4 in the loss.  Rogowski, who went 1-for-3 at the plate with a double, gave up six runs (four earned) over six innings to go along with one strikeout in all.

After falling behind by four runs through five innings of play, the Cardinals scored their lone run of the game in the top of the sixth when Evans doubled to right field to score Prince.

In all, Fisher totaled six hits in the loss led by Prince who went 2-for-3 at the dish with a run scored.  Mary Claire Grosvenor had one hit in three at-bats while Marissa Kirker, Rogowski and Evans each had a hit in the game.

The Cardinals will return home at 3 p.m. on Thursday when they welcome crosstown rival Rochester Institute of Technology to the Softball Complex for a non-conference doubleheader.
