ONEONTA, N.Y. – The No. 15 St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team kept its winning streak going on Saturday afternoon as the Cardinals defeated Hartwick by a score if 13-3 for their 11
th consecutive victory. With the conference in Fisher improves to 12-1 overall and 5-0 in the Empire 8, while the Hawks fall to 6-6 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
Over its 11 game winning streak, Fisher has held its opponents to five or less goals seven times, while also scoring more than 10 goals in all but one game.
As the first half got underway, the Cardinals scored the game's first four goals over the first 14 minutes of action.
Mary Grace Doyle got the Fisher goal scoring started just 40 seconds into the game as the senior scored her 22
nd of the season from
Sydney DeGirolamo.
From there,
Allison Rupp,
Mallory Eymer, and
Emily Thompson were able to find the back of the net, while Eymer also notched an assist to put Fisher ahead 4-0 midway through the opening half.
As the opening 30 minutes continued, Hartwick would score the game's next three goals as the Hawks cut the Fisher lead to just one goal at the 9:25 mark.
However, the Cardinals quickly answered back with six goals before the halftime break as the Fisher offense one again found its groove. Finding the back of the net before halftime was Eymer, Doyle, Rupp, Degirolamo, and
Logan Chase.
As a team in the first half, the Cardinals out-shot the Hawks 17-3, while also leading in the draw control category nine to five.
The Fisher defense shut-out the Hartwick offense in the second half as the Cardinals held the Hawks to only one shot over the second 30 minutes, while also causing a total of 42 turnovers in the game.
Aside from the stellar defense, Fisher put three more goals on the scoreboard in the second half as Doyle brought her goal total to four on the day, while
Brittany Halpin capped off the scoring with her seventh of the season.
Claudia Mocciaro was credited with her ninth victory of the season in net after playing the first 30 minutes, while
Morgan Hayes saw the second half of action in goal.
Fisher is back in action next Saturday at 11 a.m. when it welcomes Stevens Growney Stadium for another Empire 8 Conference matchup.
