Softball Concludes Play in Florida With Losses to WPI and Muskingum

TITUSVILLE, Fla. – The St. John Fisher College softball team wrapped up its time in the Sunshine State as the Cardinals fell to W.P.I, 10-4, before losing another non-conference tilt to Muskingum, 6-3.  With the defeats, Fisher will return to New York with a 4-5 overall record.

WPI 10, FISHER 4

The Cardinals found themselves in a deep hole after falling behind 5-0 through the first three innings of play.  Fisher climbed its way back to within striking distance in the fifth inning after Sarah Kubik belted a three-run home run, but WPI plated six more runs in the fourth and fifth innings to hold a six-run lead.

Trailing 9-3 in the sixth inning, Kubik struck again as the senior jacked a solo home run to left center to make it a five-run game, however, another run from WPI in the bottom of the sixth sealed the win.

Allison Rogowski (2-1) was hit with the loss after throwing six innings in the circle.  Rogowski gave up 14 hits and 10 runs (eight earned).

MUSKINGUM 6, FISHER 3

In the final game of the trip, Fisher played from behind from the get-go as the Muskies plated three runs in the first two innings.  Ashley Prince got the Cardinals' offense going in the third inning with an RBI-single up the middle that scored Julia Sortisio, but Muskingum answered with two more runs in the fourth to hold a 5-1 edge.

In the bottom of the fourth, Abby Flakus lifted a sacrifice fly to right that scored Marissa Kirker who had entered as a pinch runner for Mary Claire Grosvenor who led off with a double.

After a scoreless fifth frame, Muskingum showed its power with a leadoff home run to make it 6-2 heading into the home half of play.

Trailing by four runs, Fisher put its power on display as Grosvenor jacked a solo home run to pull Fisher to within three, but the Muskies induced a groundout and a pair of fly outs to end the game.

Emily Trotman (2-3) pitched seven innings where the sophomore gave up six earned runs on 11 hits and five walks.

Fisher will make its home debut on March 16th when it welcomes Buffalo State to the Softball Complex for a non-conference doubleheader.  First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
