Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

DeGirolamo and Eymer Lead The Way As No. 16 Women's Lacrosse Takes Down No. 19 Ithaca

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The No. 16 St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team extended its winning streak to six games on Saturday afternoon, as the Cardinals took down No. 19 Ithaca College at Growney Stadium by a score of 12-8. With the non-conference victory Fisher improves to 6-1 overall, while the Bombers fall to 4-3 overall on the season.

Sydney DeGirolamo and Mallory Eymer led the way for Fisher in the battle of two top-25 teams as the duo combined to score nine of the Cardinal's 12 goals in the game. DeGirolamo finished the game with a career-high five goals, one assist, and two caused turnovers, while Eymer posted four goals and eight shots.

The dynamic-due got the Cardinals on the scoreboard first after the opening whistle as DeGirolamo was able to find the back of the net just 30 seconds into the game. Eymer would score her first of the game at the 27:07 mark from DeGirolamo, which was quickly answered by the Bombers with their first goal of the game.

With only seven minutes off of the game clock in the first half, the freshman DeGirolamo struck again to put the Cardinals ahead 3-1 with her ninth of the season.

From there, Ithaca was able to score the game's next three goals as the Bombers were able to earn their first lead of the matchup at the 15:10 mark of the opening half.

As the first half wore on, Emily Thompson scored her ninth of the season to tie the game back up at four apiece on the man-up advantage, until Ithaca answered right back with a goal of their own.

With just under two minutes remaining before the halftime break, Eymer found the back of the net off of a great individual effort to tie the game up at 5-5 as both siders headed into the
locker room at halftime.

To start off the second half of action, it was Ithaca able to get on the scoreboard first as the No. 19 Bombers took the lead back with only a minute and a half coming off of the game clock.

From there it was Fisher's turn to go on a scoring run as the Cardinals would score three-straight goals in a nine-minute span to take a 8-6 lead. DeGirolamo scored twice, while Eymer finished off her hat-trick at the 18:21 mark.

As the second half continued to move forward, both sides would trade goals back-and forth until an Eymer rocket on the man-down from the free-position put Fisher ahead 9-8.

Once again, Ithaca was able to battle its way back as the Bombers were able to capitalize quickly, off of a Fisher turnover to tie the game back up at 9-9 with just over nine minutes remaining in regulation.

However from there, the Fisher defense went on lockdown for the remainder of the game, while the offense scored three-consecutive goals to finish off the Bombers in regulation. DeGirolamo, Logan Chase, and Mary Grace Doyle capped off the victory for Fisher as the Cardinals win their second game of the season over a top-25 team.

As a team, Fisher finished a perfect 19-19 on clear attempts throughout the game, while also causing 23 turnovers and grabbing 21 ground balls.

Morgan Hayes was credited with her second victory of the season in net as she saw the second half action, while Claudia Mocciaro played the first half and finished with two saves.

Defensively, the Cardinals were led by Molly Tice who caused a game-high four turnovers, three draw controls, and three ground balls, while Chase and Doyle also finished with a team-high three ground balls.

Fisher returns to action on Wednesday at 7 p.m. when they travel down the road to take on Nazareth in its first Empire 8 Conference matchup of the season.
