Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

No. 17 Women's Lacrosse Slays Red Dragons for Third Straight Win

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – For the third time this season, the nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team allowed just three goals as the No. 17 Cardinals extended their winning streak to three games with a 15-3 triumph over visiting SUNY Oneonta on Saturday inside Growney Stadium.  With the win, the Cardinals improved to 4-1 on the season while the Red Dragons had a four-game winning streak of their own snapped to finish the day at 4-2.

Mallory Eymer finished with four points on three goals and an assist to go along with one ground ball while Mary Grace Doyle netted three goals and assisted on another as the senior midfielder accounted for three ground balls and a draw control in the win.  Sydney DeGirolamo contributed two goals and a helper and added three draw controls while Olivia Marziale, Allison Rupp and Brittany Halpin each finished with two points.  Logan Chase controlled the midfield with a team-leading five ground balls and four draw controls to go along with one goal on the day.

It didn't take long for the Cardinals to gain the advantage as Fisher scored three goals in a span of 1:25 on two free position opportunities by Chase and Eymer and a fast-break goal from Rupp.

Holding a three-goal lead, the Cardinals were forced to continue a player down after a yellow card, however, Doyle sprinted through the Red Dragons' defense and found the back of the cage for a player down tally to stake the home team to a 4-0 lead.

Nine minutes passed between goals as the Cardinals made it a 5-0 affair with 16 minutes left to go in the opening half when DeGirolamo found Halpin in front of the net for the freshman's first goal of the afternoon.  From there, head coach Linda Michele's team added two more goals before Oneonta finally put one home with just under three minutes to go before halftime to make it 7-1.

Up by six and time winding down, the Cardinals answered two minutes later as Alyssa Sabotka threaded the needle and found Marziale in front of the cage to make it 8-1 heading into intermission.

Coming out of the break, it was all Fisher as the Cardinals scored three unanswered goals to hold an 11-1 lead with 19:16 still showing on the game clock.

Facing an uphill climb, Oneonta netted its second goal of the game at the 17:20 mark, but was unable to halt the Cardinals' attack as Fisher poured it on with three goals in a span of under four minutes to open up a 14-2 edge.

Bianca Giacona made it 15-2 in the Cardinals' favor with 6:57 left to play when Kathleen Salanger found her on the opposite side for her second goal of the season.

Ahead by 13 goals and with time ticking away, Fisher let up one more goal late in the second half before the final horn sounded on a 12-goal, non-conference decision.

Claudia Mocciaro was called upon to start between the pipes as the sophomore moved to 3-1 on the season after coming up with five saves in 30 minutes of action.  Morgan Hayes started the second half and allowed two goals to go along with a pair of stops in 30 minutes.

In total, Fisher outshot the Red Dragons, 30-19, and forced its guest into 29 turnovers overall.

The Cardinals will look to make it four wins in a row at 5 p.m. on Wednesday when they travel to Buffalo State to take on the Bengals.
