ELMIRA, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's soccer team surpassed its season high for shots as it clipped the Elmira College Soaring Eagles at Campus Field, 2-0. With the win, the Cardinals moved to 4-6-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the Empire 8 while the Soaring Eagles dropped to 2-8 and 0-3 in the conference.
 
The Cardinals lit the scoreboard early as 
Becky Mack bent a shot from the edge of the box past the Elmira keeper to give Fisher a one score advantage in the ninth minute. The goal marked the transfer junior's first in a Cardinals' uniform after five other attempted strikes on the season.
 
Fisher sealed the deal when 
Megan Letta fired a ball through the middle of the Elmira defense and found a striking 
Abigail Dwyer who unleashed and rung the back of the net. The 68
th minute goal insured that the Cardinals would find themselves in the win column for the second consecutive game and the fourth time this season.
 
Fisher rocketed 11 shots through the Elmira defense in the first half. Following the intermission, the Cardinals stepped up their offensive pressure and sent 17 in the direction of the opponent's keeper. The Cardinals' season-high 28 shots were shared by 
Carli Kovarik (8), Dwyer and 
Abigail Barr (4), Mack (3), 
Shiane Irwin, Letta, 
Kerri Orbach (2), 
Emily Murray, 
Kierra Duvall, and 
Natalie Smith (1).
 
Head coach 
Molly Romano's defense allowed just eight shots to fly in its direction. Of the two that were on target, the Cardinals' starting keeper, 
Kayla Shutts, saved. Her record as the Cardinals' keeper improved to 2-2-1 while her save percentage also jumped to .794.
 
The Cardinals look to protect their two-game win streak at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 11 when they host the Houghton College Highlanders under the lights of Growney Stadium.
