Men's Soccer Settles For Draw at Houghton

HOUGHTON, N.Y. -  The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team battled out a no score 110-minute draw with the Houghton College Highlanders on Saturday afternoon at Burke Field. The draw moved the Cardinals to 1-8-1 on the season and 0-1-1 in the Empire 8 and the Highlanders to 3-4-5 overall and 0-0-3 in the conference.

Fisher turned on the offensive burners in the first 45 minutes of play as the Cardinals outshot their opponent 4-1. Jeff Meyers recorded two shots while Justin Bonetto and Brennan Brown added one apiece.

The Highlanders found more room to breathe in the second half as their offensive production increased, but the Cardinals kept them on a close leash and forced the overtime period.

The two teams traded shots in the first overtime as they each tallied two. Fisher's best chance to score came as Meyers headed a ball just high of the crossbar in the 98th minute. Houghton shot once more in the second overtime, but it came to no avail.

Bonetto and Meyers both tallied three shots in the matchup. Brown, Ben Woolingham, and Antonio Robles added one each.

Justin Miles got his second start in goal this year and tallied three saves on the night. His record moved to 0-1-1 and save percentage increased to .800.

The Cardinals have a quick turnaround as they look to bounce back at 7 p.m. on Monday, October 7 when they host Alfred State at Growney Stadium.
