Women's Soccer Forces Draw on Senior Night

PITTSFORD, N.Y. - The St. John Fisher College women's soccer team forced Utica into their first draw of the season as the two teams split a 2-2 tie at Growney Stadium. With the no-decision, the Cardinals protected their untarnished conference record as they moved to 5-6-3 on the year and 2-0-3 in the Empire 8 while the Pioneers' overall record now rests at 8-4-1 and at 2-2-1 in the conference.

The Cardinals honored its senior class of Emily Murray, Lauren Collins, Mia Tirabassi, Abigail Barr, Kierra Duvall, and Molly Tice before the match began.

Fisher brought the heat from the get-go as the team threatened the opponent's keeper with three shots in the first 20 minutes. In the 23rd minute, the Cardinals' choice toe for corner kicks on the night, Chandler Stephany, lofted a ball which connected with the head of midfielder Logan Chase and ricocheted off the boot of freshman Megan Letta which scored her third goal of the year.

The scoring didn't stop there as solid defense led to a cleared ball to Carli Kovarik who found a perfectly cutting Barr who rang her fourth goal of the season off the back of the opponent's net.

In the next half, however, Utica tacked on two goals as the Pioneers scored in the 48th minute and again in the 73rd minute. The teams would remain knotted at two goals apiece and headed to the overtime period.

The Cardinals' only chance to score came in the 104th minute as Jessica Aldred unleashed a heater that was saved by the Pioneers' keeper.

Fisher tallied 11 shots on the night, six of which landed on target. Barr led the charge for the Cardinals as she shot three times over the course of the match. Kovarik, Aldred, and Letta all took two shots apiece while Irwin and Dwyer notched one each.

Kayla Shutts recorded all 110 minutes in goal as she made two saves on the evening. Her record improved to 2-2-3.

The Cardinals have a week off before they meet up at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 26 at Sage for its penultimate regular season game.
