PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College football team will look to kick start its high-powered passing game against the Utica College Pioneers on Saturday as Fisher makes the trip down I-90 for an Empire 8 battle at Charles A. THERE'S AN APP FOR THAT: In case you missed it, Fisher Athletics launched its new mobile app last fall - SJFC Athletics - in the App Store and on Google Play.  The app, which gives fans, alumni, parents and more yet another opportunity to stay-up-to-date with the latest news, highlights, schedules and more, is free and features push notifications so you never miss a beat.  Speaking of apps, don't forget to download the Radio.com mobile app to listen to each and every football game - just search ESPN ROCHESTER.

SERIES HISTORY: The Cardinals and Pioneers have met 18 times prior to Saturday's pairing with Fisher having posted 16 wins in that stretch.  The two programs first met back in 2001 with Fisher picking up its first of 15 consecutive wins.  Over the last three seasons, however, the Pioneers have had the winning recipe as Utica has taken two of the last three meetings.  Perhaps the most exciting game between these programs came in 2017 when the Cardinals defeated the Pioneers, 39-36, in what was the longest game in Fisher's history and one of the longest in Division III history - a five overtime thriller.

LAST TIME OUT: The Cardinals were in action last Saturday as they hosted The College at Brockport in Courage Bowl XV.  After falling behind by a touchdown in the first quarter, Fisher's offense was never able to recover as the Golden Eagles put up a 17-0 win.  In all, the Cardinals were held to a season-low 135 total yards.

DEFENSE FIRING ON ALL CYLINDERS: Despite coming up short last weekend, the Fisher defense looked the part as the Cardinals held the high-powered Brockport offense to just 17 points - all of which came in the first half.  Fisher limited the Golden Eagles to just 98 passing yards and only 248 total yards - its lowest total since 2015.  The Cardinals also came away with three more sacks and an interception as they rank among the Empire 8's top unit in both categories.  Through five games this season, Fisher has held its opposition to 17 points or fewer three times.  On the national level, the Cardinals lead all of Division III with 12 interceptions while the team's turnover margin (+10) is fifth in the nation.

SACK RACE: Entering the fifth week of the 2019 season, the Cardinals rank second overall in the Empire 8 with 16 sacks on the year.  Through five games, Fisher has had nine players record at least a half sack with Justin Wheeler leading the team and ranking second overall among all players in the Empire 8 with 5.5 to his credit.  The Cardinals' ability to get into their opponents' backfield has been a huge component of their success both in the ground game and their ability to cause turnovers.  To put things into perspective, last year in nine games, Fisher accounted for 19 sacks - total.

300 GAMES:  Last weekend's game had some added significance as it marked the 300th game that Paul Vosburgh has led the St. John Fisher College football team.  After a three-year stint as the head coach at William Penn, Vosburgh was hired to lead Fisher's program in 1991 and has spent the last 29 seasons building the program into one of the top teams in all of Division III.  To date, Vosburgh has accumulated 174 career coaching victories, which is among the most of any active coach in Division III.  With Vosburgh on the sidelines, Fisher has captured six Empire 8 Championships and has played in the NCAA Division III Football Championship five times overall where he owns a 10-5 record.  His teams have won 10 games or more five times and have been awarded the Lambert Meadowlands Trophy twice as the top team in the East region.

SCOUTING UTICA: With a 2-2 overall record, the Pioneers enter Saturday's game having posted back-to-back defeats including a 44-12 loss to Cortland last weekend.  After four games, the Pioneers' offense enters its matchup with Fisher averaging nearly 368 total yards per game, which ranks fifth among all Empire 8 squads.  Logan Wilcox leads the passing attack as the signal caller is averaging nearly 240 yards through the air per game this season to go along with seven touchdown tosses.  Peyton Miller has been his favorite target overall with 298 receiving yards and three touchdowns to his credit while fellow receiver Keegan Wright has accounted for 199 yards on 13 catches.  Through four games, Wilcox has shown the ability to spread the wealth with four wideouts nearing in on 200 receiving yards.  On the ground, Utica will turn to two different backs led by Jamarious Morgan's 205 yards and two touchdowns on 39 carries.  Brad Dougherty has contributed two touchdown runs of his own along with 170 yards on the year.

Defensively, the Pioneers have struggled to contain their opposition as they rank toward the bottom of the Empire 8 in nearly every statistical category.  As a unit, Utica ranks last in the conference in sacks (7), rushing yards allowed (157.8), passing touchdowns (10) and total yards allowed (408.0).  Kwasi Addo leads the team in tackles with 36 while Josh Nish is close on his heels with 35 stops on the season.  John Stroughn leads the team with 2.0 sacks on the year while Marquis Simpson and Elijah Belle have each come away with two interceptions overall.

Utica does, however, boast one of the top special teams units in the Empire 8 led by Maki Medici who is a perfect 7-for-7 in field goal attempts this year with his season-long coming from 43 yards.  Medici is also averaging nearly 40 yards per punt and has pinned his opposition inside its own 20 four times in all.

HALL OF FAME NEWS: St. John Fisher College is set to induct eight new members into its Athletics Hall of Fame later this fall including three former football players.  All-American Tim Bailey '11 will be inducted after a record-setting career under center.  To date, he still ranks first in program history in completions (628), yards (8,352 – 1,500 more than second) and touchdowns with 77 while his 1010 attempts is second in team history.  His 62.2 completion percentage is third all-time.  On the single season list, Bailey's name appears three times in single-season attempts, yards and completions while he ranks first all-time in touchdowns for a season with 35.  James Reile '08 will also be enshrined as the former running back is fourth all-time in rushing yards with over 3,100 while his 39 touchdowns are second in Fisher's storied history.  Former All-American defensive end Terry Principe '80 will be inducted as well.  Following his time in uniform, Principe played a significant role in helping to fundraise in order to sustain the program, which was a club at that time.  Kyle Denhoff '12 (men's lacrosse), Colleen Maloney '11 (women's basketball), Sandy Spero '80 (wrestling), Luke Lennox '10 (men's soccer) and Irene Valentine '97 (softball) will also be honored.
