Hamilton, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College field hockey team fell to the No. 13 Williams College Ephs on Tuesday night by a score of 3-2, in the first ever meeting between the two teams. The matchup was played at Hamilton College, as the Cardinals fall to 1-1 overall in 2018, while the Ephs move to 1-0 overall.
Fisher jumped on the offensive early, as
Lauren Fazio put the Cardinals on the scoreboard only three minutes and forty seconds after the opening whistle, off of a
Bre Socker assist. Williams College was able to answer however, tying the prime-time game back up at one a piece at the 10:01 mark

Ashley Maynard came up huge in the first half, tallying seven saves throughout the first 35 minutes. Despite being out-shot 13-5 by the Ephs in the opening half, the Cardinals went into halftime knotted up with the 13th ranked team in the country.
To start the second half, it was Williams College able to find the back of the net early, as the Ephs took the lead just under two minutes after the halftime break. Both teams were held scoreless for the next 20 minutes of play, until Williams tallied its third goal of the game, to take a two-goal advantage with 14 minutes remaining.
With only 23 seconds remaining in the game, the Socker and Fazio connection struck again, cutting the Ephs lead to just one goal with Socker's fourth goal of the season. However, the Cardinals were unable to tie the game back up, finishing with eight total shots in the game.
Maynard notched a career-high 17 saves in the matchup between the pipes, while both Socker and Fazio tallied two shots on goal apiece.
The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday, when they travel to Canton, to take on St. Lawrence University at 2 p.m.
