Women's Volleyball Wraps Up Final Games In Lake Forrest, Illinois

Lake Forest, Illinois – The St. John Fisher College women's volleyball wrapped up its trip to Lake Forest, Illinois on Saturday afternoon with two more matches to complete the Forrester Invitational. In Fisher's first match of the day, the Cardinals fell to the Milwaukee School of Engineering in a hard-fought five sets 25-23, 19-25, 19-25, 25-19, 11-15. The Cardinals would then eventually fall to Carroll College in four sets 21-25, 25-20, 15-15, 20-25. The 2018 Cardinals move to 0-4 on the season, while the Raiders and Pioneers both move to 3-1 overall. 

Versus the Raiders, freshman Alea Steigerwald continued her successful offensive weekend, notching a game-high 15 kills in the match, to go along with 14 digs. Junior Izzy Smith also contributed well on the offensive and defensive end, posting 10 kills and 18 digs.

Libero Elise Kreuz tallied a team-high 32 digs, while Rebecca Hay contributed 32 assists and 18 digs from the setter position.

In the Cardinals' second match of the day, it was Steigerwald and Smith again leading the way offensively, with nine and seven kills, respectively. Freshman Julia Halsey added eight kills and a new career-high 17 digs on the outside.

Hay continued her steady play from the setter position, notching 16 assist to go along with 16 digs. It was Kreuz again leading the Cardinals' back-line, finishing with a team-high 22 digs and three assists.

The Cardinals are back on the road at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 5th in a non-conference battle with Keuka College.
