ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team fell in its season opener against the Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers, 3-0. The Cardinals move to 0-1-0 to begin the year, while the Tigers advance to 1-0-0 in the early goings.
RIT would open up the scoring in the 17th second on a Tigers penalty kick. The Tigers struck again in the third minute to put the team up two scores.
Junior Matthew Kaiser ripped the only shot of the half in the sixth minute, but was eventually blocked by an RIT defender in the box.
Goalkeeper Joe Catalfamo was credited with three big saves in the first half of play to limit the Tigers to two goals at the half.
The Cardinals came out aggressive in the second half with freshman Justin Bonetto firing off two shots on goal to open up his collegiate career against the Tigers.
Fisher played stellar defense in the second half, limiting RIT to just four shots. However, the Tigers would strike for a third and final time in the 86th minute of play to round out the scoring in the night cap.
Catalfamo recorded four total saves in the match, but would pick up the loss in net for the Cardinals.
Fisher returns to the pitch in front of its home fans at 1 p.m. on Sunday, September 2nd against the University of Rochester Yellowjackets.
