HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's tennis team bowed out in the semi-final round of the 2018 Empire 8 Men's Tennis Championship to Houghton College, 5-0. The Cardinals finished out their regular season with a 7-10 overall record, and a 6-2 conference record. The Highlanders will move onto the final round on Saturday against the Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks.
Kevin Kulawiec and Dustin McCullough dropped the first doubles match of the day to their opponents, 8-3. Second and third doubles were hard fought battles, however the duos consisting of Jonathan Harper and Jordan O'Connell, as well as John Miller and Jarrett Pelton would eventually fall, 8-5 and 8-4.
Fisher would be forced to drop out of first singles when Kulawiec would retire with a shoulder injury. The senior was ahead 2-1 at the time of retirement.
Houghton would go on to take the semi-final win after Miller fell to his Highlander opponent in second singles.
The Cardinals will return to the court in the fall of 2018.
